Cooking With CBD for Added Health Benefits

Nov 22, 2021 | Industry Trends & Info, The Happy Camper Way

If you’ve been curious about trying CBD, you’ve come to the right place! Our customers use oral and topical CBD formulas from The Happy Camper to target a range of wellness goals. And the results are overwhelming: Many users report that our products help them get better sleep, manage occasional anxiety and find relief from arthritis and other joint pain.

But if you’re not quite ready to try our daily CBD softgels or topical creams, you might find it easier to start by adding CBD to your food and beverages for an added health benefit. It is very simple to cook with CBD, and this article will show you how.

But first…what is CBD?

CBD is short for Cannabidiol, and it comes from the powerful cannabis or hemp plant. Unlike its psychoactive sister THC, CBD does not produce a “high” feeling and has not been found to be addictive.

Researchers are still just beginning to understand the power and potential of CBD oil, but early studies show that CBD contains what are called “neuroprotective properties.” These properties help to minimize or eliminate inflammation, making CBD ideal for treating a range of chronic health conditions from epileptic seizures to migraines.

The same with any health supplement, The Food and Drug Administration does not regulate CBD, making it extremely important to source CBD products only from reputable providers. At The Happy Camper, we only source the finest organic, Colorado-grown hemp for our CBD tinctures, softgels and transdermal creams, which you can find here on our website, or in more than 75 retail shops throughout Western Colorado.

Getting started with CBD-infused food

The simplest and most cost-effective way to introduce CBD into your diet is by adding a few drops of our 1200mg full-spectrum CBD drops to your morning coffee, tea or smoothie. This practice actually dates as far back as the tenth century, when Indian people used a mixture of ground cannabis flowers and milk for spiritual purposes.

Beverages enter your bloodstream more quickly than chewed foods, so CBD-infused smoothies offer a nutrient-rich way to wake up your metabolism and feel energized to face the day. What’s more, you can control the dosage when cooking with CBD. Although it is considered safe to use even in large quantities, we recommend starting with a 5mg dosage twice per day, and increasing your dosage until you start to feel the desired effects.

Banana Oatmeal Superfood CBD Smoothie
Ingredients:
¼ cup rolled oats
½ cup plain Greek yogurt
1 banana
1 teaspoon honey
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
1mL Happy Camper 1200mg CBD oil tincture

Directions:
Place banana, rolled oats, Greek yogurt and almond milk in a blender and blend until smooth. Add honey, cinnamon and CBD tincture and blend for 10-15 additional seconds or until fully incorporated.

Other ways to use CBD in cooking

Once you’ve mastered the art of CBD-infused beverages, you can add our tincture to baked goods, soups, stir-fry dishes and much more. Just remember that high heat can lower the effectiveness of CBD, so it’s best to choose recipes that bake at 350°F or less.

Alternatively, you can enjoy the health-boosting benefits of CBD without heating it at all—simply add a few drops to your favorite pasta sauce, salad dressing, ice cream or other cold dish. Here’s our hands-down favorite vegan and gluten-free snack the whole family will enjoy:

CBD-infused Guacamole

3 medium ripe avocados, peeled, halved and seeded
2 small tomatoes, seeded and diced
1 large garlic clove, minced
1 tbsp fresh cilantro leaves, chopped

½ tsp kosher salt
½ tsp ground cumin
¼ tsp ground cayenne pepper
½ medium onion, finely diced
1mL Happy Camper 1200mg Full-spectrum CBD Tincture

Instructions:
Place avocados in a medium-sized bowl and mash with a fork or potato masher. Add salt, cumin, garlic, cayenne pepper, cilantro, onion, jalapeño, tomatoes and lime juice. Top the mixture with CBD tincture and stir to combine. Serve with warm tortilla chips and enjoy!
